The Baltimore Men’s Chorus is looking for a rehearsal and performance piano accompanist. The BMC, which is the longest running LGBTQ+ performing arts organization in Maryland, performs a wide range of music: Broadway standards, classical choral literature, multicultural arrangements, and more. Our ideal accompanist will have an appreciation and knowledge of music theory and pedagogy, will be comfortable playing multiple vocal lines to aid singers in the learning process, and will have a developed sense of musicianship. Additionally, our accompanist may be asked to lead rehearsals in the event of a director absence.

 

Requirements/Experience: Piano proficiency and sight-reading skills for multi-part choral music required. Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance or equivalent experience preferred. Experience accompanying vocal performance / choral organizations a plus.

 

Time Requirements: 3-4 hours per week during rehearsal weeks, up to 10 hours per week during performance weeks. Rehearsals are Monday nights from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, performances are generally weekend evenings (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) with occasional weekday performances with advanced notice. Choral seasons include winter (conventionally choral, performances in November/December), spring (contemporarily choral, performances in March/April/May), and Cabaret (broadway/pop, performances in July/August).

 

Compensation: Stipend is provided on a weekly basis, additional compensation per performance.
