The Baltimore Men's Chorus is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Musical Director to take the baton and lead us into our next chapter.

The BMC celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024, it's an especially exciting time to step into such an opportunity.

Who We Are

We are proud to be Maryland's longest-running LGBTQ+ performing arts organization.  We are a non-auditioning, diverse, open, and supportive brotherhood of singers who strive to serve our communities and foster positive social change through artistic excellence.  Our chorus is a community of adults from different backgrounds and diverse skill levels.  We currently rehearse Mondays from 7pm-9pm at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Baltimore.

Job Summary 

We are looking for a talented and creative Musical Director to lead our music team in developing, producing, and teaching musical performances. The Musical Director will be responsible for overseeing the musical instruction, rehearsals, and performances of our talented membership. They will also be in charge of ensuring that all musical productions are engaging and entertaining for our audiences.  The position will officially begin in September 2024, but opportunities to transition leadership through the Spring 2024 season are being considered.  Position pays per rehearsal and performance.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Create and implement a musical program that is appropriate for the skill level of our membership.

  • Develop and lead rehearsals with singers to ensure that they are well-prepared for performances.

  • Teach singers the necessary music theory, technique, and performance skills needed to be successful.

  • Attend and conduct all performances, ensuring that they are of the highest quality.

  • Work with membership to create and develop new musical performances 

  • Ensure that all musical performances are engaging and entertaining for our audiences.

Requirements and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in music theory and performance. 

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work with adults of all skill levels. 

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Basic piano skills would be helpful.
